There is a very specific kind of parenting moment that can make your nervous system light up instantly.

The blurting in public.
The rude comment.
The impulsive grab.
The reaction that feels bigger, louder, or faster than the moment called for.

And if we’re honest? Sometimes what rises in us first isn’t calm, measured insight about executive functioning.

It’s embarrassment.
It’s anger.
It’s that hot flash of “Not again.”
It’s the urge to lecture, correct, defend, or demand:
“What were you thinking?!”

Because in many of these moments… they weren’t thinking in the way we wish they were.

The brake failed.

And when the brain’s brake pedal fails, what happens next matters just as much as what happened in the first place.

Today we’re going to talk about what to actually do in those moments — how to lower the temperature, protect connection, and help your child’s brain recover instead of spiraling further.
